ST. CHARLES, Ill. − Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, church groups, youth groups, sports teams, and clubs can help less fortunate children and families this winter by participating in the Merlin Kids Helping Kids™ program. Merlin 200,000 Mile Shops in Illinois and Wisconsin are encouraging young people in their area to assist in the collection of new and like-new children’s winter clothing and receive an embroidered patch for their efforts.
Kids Helping Kids™ is part of the much larger Snug Hugs for Kids™ Winter Clothing Drive, now in its 28th year conducted in Merlin 200,000 Mile Shops to benefit their charity partner, Children’s Home & Aid. The greatest need is for new and like new items sized to fit newborn to 7 year old children, however, items sized to fit 8-18 year olds are also welcomed.
Items most needed include the following:
Groups can collect and donate at all Illinois and Wisconsin Merlin shops through December 11, 2018. Participant groups who complete a Kids Helping Kids™ registration form will receive an embroidered patch for their assistance. To obtain a Kids Helping Kids™ registration form, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or visit your local Merlin Shop.
"Every year there are more children and families that need assistance. Kids Helping Kids™ is a program designed to help teach young people the value of assisting their less fortunate peers by providing the warm clothing they need to be able to attend school or play outside. Each year we are thankful for the collection efforts from the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and other youth organizations in the communities we serve," said Penny McDowell, Merlin’s Marketing Director
On Dec. 12, 2018, Merlin Franchisees, corporate staff and vendor partners will deliver the donations to strategically located Children’s Home & Aid family centers. A fleet of Merlin vans and vendor trucks will form a caravan to deliver an anticipated 9+ tons of clothing gathered as a result of Snug Hugs for Kids.
Children’s Home & Aid is a leading child and family service agency in Illinois. The organization helps children recover their health, their hope, and their faith in the people around them. We link children to a network of opportunity and care, to extended family, teachers, mentors, and the resources of the neighborhood and community. For more than 130 years, the organization has gone wherever children and families need them, and where that work has been proven to be most effective: at home, in the classroom, in the neighborhood, in the course of daily life. The organization has offices located across Illinois and serves more than 40,000 children and families in over 60 counties each year.
