ST. CHARLES, Ill. − Girl Scout, Boy Scout, school, church, and youth groups can help make a difference in another child’s life by collecting new and like-new kids winter clothing as part of the Kids Helping Kids Program (KHK).
The greatest need is for items sized to fit newborn to 7 year old children, however, items sized to fit 8-18 year olds are also welcomed.
Items most needed include the following:
Kids Helping Kids is part of the Snug Hugs for Kids winter clothing drive, now in its 27th year, conducted by Merlin 200,000 Mile Shops. Donations can be dropped off at any Merlin Shop from October 23 - December 13, 2017. Youth organizations such as Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, church Groups, cchool Groups, youth groups and more can earn an embroidered patch by submitting a KHK registration and patch request form after completing the donation. Forms can be obtained at Merlin Shops or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
"Many local families will need a little extra help to provide their children the necessary winter clothing to allow them to attend school or play outside. A donation of clothing helps warm both the hands and hearts of the local recipient," said Merlin 200,000 Miles Director of Marketing Penny McDowell.
In the past, groups have conducted school or neighborhood clothing drives or purchased new clothing with fundraised money and refurbished or embellished the clothing. Used clothing should be clean, free of holes and have working zippers. Group projects include embellishing inexpensive stretchy gloves with bows, sequins or buttons or outfitting an imaginary child with the winter items they need such as a coat, hat, scarf, gloves and boots.
